So far so good. I have my title and once I take a photo in the next few mins or so I will post here. My title is "Oh My Gord" I have 3/4 of the picture completed with watercolors, color pencil and marker. I have used the orginal still life and added patterns and a surreal addition to the piece.

I am presently stressing over the syllabus. I will get back to the artwork when I have finished this left brain activity.

I am not working on my project right now. The blog has been my goal. I am also working on my essay for next week.
As far as my artwork I am passing ideas back and forth, but still have not made a connection on the project. I have four entirely different sketches, but I will get the project done.
Do we incorporated the drawing, 2D Design, sculpture project also?

I do not have a camera, so I am going to try to explain what my art piece looks like: My artwork is a surrealistic social protest spin off from the Upstate still life. (Wow, say that three times!) While I was peacefully observing the still lfe, for some strange reason, when I saw the coil, the stacked glasses, the chair, the flower, and the cloth spread under those objects, I visualized a sort of surreal landscape which would represent how gasoline prices are out of this world ($96 to fill my tank x 2 = $192.00 to travel from where I live to Spartanburg and back home!) The American Economy is going up in smoke. The main culprit is the cost of gasoline. I used each of those objects to symbolize something that is happening in America and around the world...Gasoline Prices!!!! My work is very surreal, but at the same time...VERY REAL!

CHAIR - Changed into a Gasoline holding Tower of course to represent Gasoline

CLOTH with FOLDS - The U.S. Flag
to represent America

COIL - represents a Gas hose attached to the gasoline tower and ending up as money wasted

STACKED GLASSES - Any U.S. City

FLOWER - represents sweet deals for the CEO's in the Oil Industry

Now about my artwork....

You will probably not see it for a while for it keeps be sketched and resketched and....

I have pictures in my head or on paper of the items that interested me:
The Egyptian of past great civilizations and Frank Lloyd Wright's design from the museum
The old African American mamee in her handkerchief with knarled hands from Columbia Museum of Art's (COMA?) Southern Collection
The chair of education, gourd of protection, or flower of burgeoning life from the still life
Here is what I am trying to do: I want an artwork that shows my love of my family.

It caused me to think back about Norman Rockwell positioning people in photos to communicate what he needed.

So I woke my family up early earlier this week because the lighting was great and had them pose. First two of our three children posed as orphans from Siberia wanting to be adopted in 2003. (One child is with the grandparents.) Then they changed clothese and posted with their dad in the "family tree".

The artwork is better in written symbol than visual symbol at this point.

Now--will I meet the deadline. For some reason I thought both the syllabus and painting were due on Friday of this comming week...

I am almost fatigued...so it is get our children ready.

Now I understand why people delete comments. There are several efforts one can make like duplicate comments and silly comments because one did not read the whole blog before responding.

Sherry-your artwork sound great.

Renata, I, too, am pressing about the syllabus and... the artwork and the other. I am too exhausted to really stress at this point with all of the things going on outside of class also.

I've looked at eveyone's artwork and read about the others. I feel like I have not responded well to this artwork assignment. I did use multi-media. My artwork is a combination of chair still life from last Friday, and a landscape from the museum and an Egyptian chair leg that caught my attention in the Egyptian exhibit.
Suzanne and Josh: As you just read I, too, have had a problem with this assignment. I had an idea in my head, but the longer I worked with it the more I wasn't sure. You won't get a picture; my husband was going to help with that, but time is quickly passing by.
Amy, bring your camera, we can take mine out of the frame.
Brandt, like the Egyptian chair. I have had a time connecting the subject matter myself.
Ashley, love your piece. I thought yours was on handmade paper and it is. Nice use of color.
Jim, what a wonder piece of art. You are so talented with the computer. Love your composition. Maybe one day some of my students can teach me how to work with Photoshop????
Roxanne, I thought about doing design and tried, but not what I expected. Great pattern work on your part.
I have looked at everyone's art and think you are doing some great work; the same goes for the people who wrote, much better descriptions than me.
