This is an example of the social awareness project I had my students do in their Pre-AP class. This student actually turned it into her concentration. She did research on social awareness advertising campaigns and got her information from the UN, Unicef, and Design of Dissent. After she finished the posters, we took them downtown Charleston and took her slides as they would appear as posters... so, they were on signs, buildings, fences, etc.

I'm just a passerby but this looks like one cool course!
It seems that this course has stired up some outside interest!
+ Speaking of outside interest: Wouldn't it be wonderful if each of us turned current issues and community concerns into a class project for our students to bring awareness to problems and possibly deliver solutions (if any)! Just think of the empowerment we would be giving to our students and to the community to do something about those concerns and issues!!!!
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Impressive project and a great idea for the photos!
Hello, Jannie Sue "Funster".
You must have been invited.
Did you do your lesson that we will be receiving on this social dissent project.
Is there a way I could enlarge it when I click on it.
Ah, ha. I had to click on the picture and W-A-I-T. It is a delightful composition on the homeless.
Taking pictures in Charleston is a fine idea. Thank you.
The posters are a great idea on their own, but the way you took the pictures completed the thought. Yet, . . . by placing the posters on a variety of backgrounds, you are actually manipulating the artwork while photographing it. Traditional photography or not, it is manipulation of artwork during the photographing process. I AM NOT CRITICISING. Remember, I am one of the nutty ones supporting digital photography and all its possibilities. I appreciate the opportunity to point out that photo-manipulation can be a valid and vital part of the creative process. It all depends on how it is handled. It greatly involves the artist’s personal sense of integrity and what he/she is trying to achieve. Great project idea!
I THINK THIS IS A WONDERFUL PROJECT. I just don't know much about digital photography, although my students do. I was real impressed when I enlarged the picture and read the message. Great lesson.
